Youth Horseback Riding Lessons at Starting Point Stables, Angier / Coats, NC

childrens riding lessons, Angier, NCPrivate riding lessons, at some point, are a must in order to develop the initial skill set needed to stay on a horse in motion. However - beginners have so much to learn beyond riding!

Similar to the H4, Scouts or Pony Club programs, we have found kids often talk about what they are doing amongst themselves, reinforcing the material being covered. Aside from the instructor and ponies, the kids provide to one another a wonderful source of support in their learning process. And this seems to be the perfect environment to teach non-riding information.

Because we understand what it is like to raise a family and try to provide your kids social and recreational activities in the current economy, we made our programs affordable.

Why a horse riding lesson program for my child?

For families who do not own a horse:

Our lesson program provides horses, equipment, quality facility, learning materials and social opportunities. Many people think about just buying their child a horse and putting it in the back yard, but consider this;

  • The cost of an average horse that is safe and sound enough for your child to enjoy will start around $1,500 with no upward limit
  • The cost of a pre-purchase health exam for a horse costs between $250 - $700
  • The yearly average maintenance and health care costs of a healthy riding horse can range between $300 to $700 per year (deworming, twice yearly vaccinations, dental care, rabies, coggins testing, and hoof care) and an emergency can cost you more than you paid for the horse
  • The cost of equipment such as saddles ($300+), bridles, grooming tools, a first aid kit, blankets, etc can be steep
  • The cost of monthly food can average between $45 - $100 (depending on the size of the horse) and board (if you do not own property) costs between $100 for 'no frills - no food' services all the way up to $400.00 per month for full care

For families who do own a horse:

  • Most families that keep a horse at home do not have a full training facility, including a safe riding arena with lights for year round use and additional training props like trail course, jumps, ground poles, etc.
  • Most kids will lose interest with the horse kept in the back yard if they do not have ample access to social or peer riding situations., after all hobbies and sports are more fun when they are shared activities!
  • Most children will become frustrated and lose interest if they do not easily gain skills, and if a house hold is not fairly horse savy, a 'stay at home pony' can easily become spoiled or undisciplined
  • Most children simply do not learn well under the tutoring of 'Mom and Dad' :-)
